Well let me start by saying it has been a challenging Christmas break.  Not due to the holidays but due to a lame, stubborn Basset.  Boe has torn both his ACL’s.  Approx. two months ago his left leg and then one night I came home from work last week his right leg.

I am trying conservative management. He is currently on Gabapentin, 100 mg 1x a day and Deramaxx 100 mg 2x a day. Surgery is not an option as he will be 10 years old in February.  It is not because I don’t want to spend the money.   It is because I went through this surgery with my Labrador Retriever on both legs at ages 3 and 5 years old and he suffered terribly. I don’t want Boe to have to go through that at his age.

I am looking for any advise or shared experiences that anyone has had with conservative management. I have ordered some neoprene custom braces to assist and support his legs.

Sincerely,

Susan Rank
